Hàng Trống Folk Painting & Vietnam Travel Poster

This project features a series of Vietnam travel posters, aiming not only to showcase the beauty of travel destinations but also to highlight the rich cultural heritage of Vietnam.

The initiative took shape during the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic when international travel restrictions were prevalent across many countries. Consequently, the tourism industry came to a near standstill. However, anticipating the post-pandemic era, where tourism is expected to surge, this project serves as essential groundwork for promoting Vietnamese tourism. Given that tourism plays a pivotal role in Vietnam's economy, this work is a vital preparatory step for the inevitable tourism boom.

To tailor a collection of travel posters for Vietnam while embracing Vietnamese visual arts, the Hàng Trống folk painting style was selected as the primary theme of this project. Extensive research into previous literature and paintings was conducted to achieve two main project goals: (1) analyse the visual elements of Hàng Trống folk paintings, and (2) experiment with transforming these elements into a contemporary series of travel posters.

The project culminated in an exhibition at the Seoul National University Museum of Arts in 2021.
